5 Essential Tips for Car Maintenance

Taking proper care of your car doesn’t have to be a complex chore. Following our five essential car maintenance tips will keep you out of the repair shop while padding your wallet in the long-term.

Regularly Change Oil and Fluids

This is tip is probably on every routine car maintenance checklist but do not neglect your oil and fluid levels! Having a fresh-oil change done on a regular basis, check your vehicle’s manual to determine what type of oil you need and how often you should change it. Knock two birds out at once and have all of your vital fluids checked at the same time as well.

Keep Your Car Clean

If you’re cleaning your car yourself, make sure you’re also thoroughly cleaning the underside. Our cars accumulate a considerable amount of grime, especially during winter when the roads are salted. Over the blazing summer months tar, bugs and dirt also tend to accumulate and get stuck to your undercarriage.

Protect the Exterior

A shiny, sparkly paint job is a visual cue of a well-loved and taken care of vehicle! Wax should be applied to the exterior of your vehicle at least once every 6 months. Adding a layer of wax will ensure that when you’re removing dirt without rubbing away exterior paint.

Give Brakes Some Love

The brake fluid in your vehicle tends to attract quite a bit of moisture. Annually replacing your brake fluid will help keep your components from corroding over time. Getting your rotors and pads and drums and shoes changed is simple and affordable and will prevent costly replacements down the road.

Flush Your Coolant

With much of the country experiencing freezing temperatures this time of year, it’s critical to make sure your coolant system is in working order. Completely flushing out your vehicle’s coolant system will get rid of any grime that has accumulated over time.
