Car Cleaning Hacks That Last All Year

It’s that time of year when folks all around the Seattle-Puyallup area start cleaning their cars in their driveways and focus on aspects of detailing that were ignored all winter long. At Sunset Ford, we know you baby your car – and your Ford deserves it! We’ve put together some of our favorite car cleaning hacks that will help your Ford look great all year long.

Defog Your Headlights

You’ll need some elbow grease for this one! A tube of toothpaste, particularly whitening toothpaste will clean those headlights up. Simply rub it into your headlights with a clean rag then rinse it off with clean water and dry. You’ll love how much easier it is to see at night! To keep your headlights fog free longer, try applying furniture polish or a car wax with UV protection.

Get Old Stickers of Your Windshield

Whether it’s a registration sticker or your oil change reminder, old stickers on a windshield can be really annoying. You can solve the problem with a wet newspaper and just 10-minutes of your life. Wet the newspaper with warm water and hold it over the bothersome sticker for 10-minutes so the moisture can penetrate. When you’re done, the sticker will practically fall off in your hands.

Raid Your Wife’s Nail Polish to Fix Chips or Scratches

Small chips, scratches and dings can make your paint job look less than stellar. They’re not worth the cost of a full paint job and you don’t always have a bottle of touch up paint ready. Or if your Ford is a custom color you might be having trouble getting the matching touch up paint. No problem! Find the closest color nail polish you can and use that. Be sure to cover it over with a clear finish and wax it so the gloss will match the rest of your car.
